An ascender allows a person to climb up a rope. This tool is used by rock climbers and rescue professionals. A rope clips into it, and it attaches to the climber's harness. The ascender only slides one direction on the rope. Two ascenders are used together with a looped Webbing or Lanyard attached to the lower one. The climber steps into the lanyard loop and stands up while holding the rope with one hand, and raising the top ascender with the other. Then shifting weight to hold the strap from the top ascender, he/she pulls the lower ascender up.
